Travel in The Philippines vs Other Asian Nations
I have lived in the Philippines all my life and travelled the most part of it. I cannot take the shit anymore about what other people say about our country and all the negative PR that dissuade many western people from coming here. Most people would rather skip the Philippines for Thailand or Malaysia which sucks because we have a lot of potential.
For one, what you must take note of is that the Philippines is not really designed for the masses, this country is only for the highly intelligent. There are dangers that may lurk around here that you may never get the chance to encounter in other Asian nations, so if you would like to experience a heightened sense of awareness of living life on the edge, then you must defintely come here or even if you don’t like to do that, this country is not that dangerous at all because it’s not like bombs go off around here any minute. You just have to think with your fucking brains what is the current situation you are in. If you like to get off the beaten and overrated and overused path, the beauty of this country is defintely worth it. The point is, you get to experience the best of both worlds only here in the Philippines.
What you must take note of is that we are a 7,107 island archipelago, a lot can happen with that and every island has it’s own personality and culture and landscape and it’s own way of doing things. Different slands and provinces have different dangers too. And it’s not like because one part of Mindanao is dangerous, all the other places are. We are a country of contrasts, you can never really generalize us. You cannot put up a single conclusion about the Philippines. Just because Manila has a shitload of rainfall doesn’t mean all the other nicer places are. Just because you see slums everywhere doesn’t mean there are no classy places here to check out. We are not just a poor country, we are a poor country with New York-like skyscrapers everywhere. We are a country where poverty can be mixed well with a wealthy, world class and good life. And just because most people here are poor, it doesn’t mean they are not good and genuine people.
The bad part you will find to be true. You will meet people here that will try to scam you or rip you off. This is particularly true about the taxi drivers in Manila. You just have to be smart and know what you are doing and justify yourself. If a taxi driver will try to scam you into paying too much, just tell him to use the meter or you will take note of his plate number and report him to the authorities or better yet, just look for another taxi. If you are buying something, learn how to haggle. People here are in dire poverty, and tourism has become one of the desperate ways for them to earn. Filipinos are very smart. And diseases, you may want to have a mosquito repellent with you.
When commuting or travelling on a jeepney, never display or put out your phone or jewelry for they may get ripped.
When in Manila or travelling at sea, always know what the weather is and always expect traffic in the main roads during rush hour, which means if you want to go some place, leave a lot earlier than you have to.
The street food sucks, and only for those with an iron stomach but you will find restaurants that cater to every cuisine.
You will find a thousand things to complain about the Philippines.
However, I say the Philippines still worth coming to because the natural beauty of this country is beyond compare. Things here are never what they seem. This is a unique place that will give you an experience unlike any other, if you are SMART enough to even make your way around here.
For one, other asian countries may not cater to all interests, and this country has everything. Every adventure, culture, history you can think of. Thousands of undiscovered beauties. And the sex industry, trust me we do it better. The best looking Asian girls are here.Filipinos are not just asians by ancestry but mixed, and many are half white. A classy Malaysian or thai would look nauseous to you if you compare them to an ordinary Filipina. We speak comprehensible English too. Everything around here is in English, you don’t have to struggle with translations. That’s the advantage we have.
If you really want to live a REAL life, disregard what you’ve heard on the news or magazines or what people have said through word of mouth, and just see the Philippines for yourself.
