Volunteers prepare gift packages for the Winter Holidays.
PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. – Soldiers from the 229th Military Intelligence Battalion, Presidio of Monterey, join with the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 549, Monterey Bay, to spread some holiday spirit. On Dec. 21, the group of volunteers assembled 80 gift packages full of non-perishable foods that were distributed among local military families, veterans, and community members.

Greece, or more specifically, the Greek islands, offers a paradise of white sand beaches and blue oceans, of hot sun and charming culture. It is the perfect holiday destination. LEFKADA
In the Ionian Sea is Lefkada, one of the biggest of the Greek islands. There is a road which links the island t the mainland, making it easier to reach. Since the island is so big there are plenty of incredible beaches such as Porto Katsiki. Adventure sports enthusiasts can head to Vassikili, which is considered one of the prime windsurfing destinations in Europe. The island of Lefkada mountainous and lush, making it ideal for keen hikers who wish to leave the beaches and go walking in the hills. With such a relaxed and romantic atmosphere and stunning natural surroundings, cheap holidays to Lefkada are perfect for outdoors enthusiasts.
SKOPELOS
Skopelos is a very pretty island within the Northern Sporades group, and of all of them, Skopelos is one of the greenest. Its abundance of forests and flowers makes it a haven for wildlife, and visitors may even be lucky enough to spot monk seals, white-breasted hedgehogs, bats and tree frogs! Local products which are made on Skopelos include olive oil, feta, honey and prunes, all which must be tried if you are visiting here. Of course, tourism to Skopelos has increased since it was used as the location for the film Mamma Mia – the island’s Agios Chapel also featured in the film’s major wedding scene.
KOS
One of the most popular Greek islands is Kos, which is the third largest of the Dodecanese islands. Hone to gorgeous beaches, quaint villages and charming local restaurants and taverns. As well as stunning natural landscapes there is also a lot of incredible history to be discovered here. For instance, the ancient Greek physician and “Father of Medicine”, Hippocrates, was born on Kos, and visitors who want to discover more about ancient life can visit the Kos Archaeological Museum.
SANTORINI
Santorini, or Thera as it is known locally, is one of the most famous islands within the Cyclades group. Formed by a volcanic eruption, the island’s central lagoon and rocky caldera make this a unique destination in the Greek islands. The beaches are made of volcanic black sand, but are truly stunning nonetheless. And then there is the reason Santorini is so famous – its picture postcard scenery of white and blue buildings perched on the side of the caldera. With such a beautiful place to view the island’s incredible sunsets it’s no surprise Santorini caters for romance, with many resorts and hotels here offering package holidays for couples.
